[introduction - css]

Welcome to CSS!

I doubt there is anything I can say about CSS that either you haven't already heard or hasn't already been said! An amazingly powerful technology that I have become totally hooked on. Early last year I began using CSS to determine the look of the sites I developed and felt I had a very good grasp of it. Within a few short months, I realised that I had not even scratched the surface!

Since then, I have bought books, joined lists and visited some incredible web sites dedicated to CSS and I honestly don't know if I will ever know enough. As new browserrs are introduced so the technology adapts and as the technology adapts, so new browsers are introduced...and so it continues! Sometimes I have to pinch myself to be sure this is all for real. It's hard to believe I have finally found something in life I can never be bored with! Oh, if only all this had been around when I was in school...

the CSS catalogue

Much of the scripts I will be adding to this section will be for those who already have some knowledge of CSS so if you are a true beginner in this field, I strongly suggest you check out my CSS Resource pages first. Don't be afraid - CSS is not really difficult to get the hang of. If you are already coding HTML, you already have enough basic knowledge to tackle CSS - and once you begin to use it, you will wonder how you ever got by without it!

Apart from giving you so much more control over the look and feel of your designs, your pages will load quicker and you can save a great deal of time in development, too! You will also have the opportunity to make your sites Accessible - something I am very passionate about! As the proud daughter of a blind mother who [at 60 years of age] has just taken possesion of her first ever computer [a laptop] and has registered for a course specifically for blind people to learn how to use it, you can imagine how I feel about making sites accessible to all!

With that in mind, I whole-heartedly recommend anyone who is considering web design from a commercial point of view to explore CSS - it is the future of web design and if your hopes are to either gain employment in this field or even launch your own business, a reasonable knowledge of CSS will be a requirement, not a bonus.

footnote

CSS scripts will start to appear in this section at the beginning of 2005. If you would like to know when new scripts and tutorials have been added to the site, please fill in the Updates Request form and you will be notified by email.
